EXPERT MECHANISM ON THE RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT

IOPDHR-GENEVA-NGO took part in the sessions of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development, held at the Palais des Nations. This opportunity enabled us to take an active part in open debates and interact with influential leaders in the field. Our presence at this event underlines our ongoing commitment to promoting and defending the right to development on an international scale.

The Expert Mechanism, comprising five independent experts on the right to development, is appointed by the Human Rights Council in accordance with the procedure set out in paragraphs 39 to 53 of the annex to Council resolution 5/1. Each expert is appointed for a three-year term, renewable once.

The Expert Mechanism meets twice a year for three-day sessions in Geneva and New York. It submits an annual report on its activities to the Human Rights Council, and maintains an ongoing dialogue with the latter. States, United Nations mechanisms, entities, specialized agencies and funds, as well as intergovernmental organizations, regional human rights mechanisms, national human rights institutions, academics, development experts and NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, are invited to attend the annual meetings of the Expert Mechanism as observers.
